A Finished Fence

The fence is complete. The garden is protected. The dog has a yard. All great news. It feels like we have a real home.

We built a fence with metal poles, cedar pickets, and pine runners. Hopefully this will last a decade or two—sure was not cheap, but it was fun to build. Becca made sure we had the nicest gate hardware for all three gates. We could not be happier with the results!

The dark picket in the middle is the color we want to stain the rest of the fence, eventually.

A new side yard of our own.

  2. The fence is pretty amazing. I'm trying to retrofit my old metal fence similarly. Any chance you'd be willing to snap a few close-up photos of the c-style brakets you used to tie the wood to the metal posts? Did you tie the boards together with anything other than butt joints and the brackets? If you get a chance to share, I'm at aaronlikas@gmail.com. Greatly appreciated in advance!

    Thanks,

  3. AJ, we'll work on getting a photo to you of the brackets. We purchased them at Lowes for around $3 a pop (but this was a few years ago). They were galvanized and we painted them black. Glad you like it, and feel free to ask any questions.

  4. Hi there, The fence looks great. I'm really interested in doing the same. Converting the chain link fence to a wood fence. The brackets would be great. You can send them to villere dot treme @gmail please.

    Thanks.

  5. In a close community like yours, adding a fence is just a smart decision. This way, you can have a boundary between your personal life and the outside world. You can enjoy your backyard more, and it'll protect you and your pets from any trespassers.

  6. A second critical detail will certainly be in the way that the gate is built. Will your contractor be using an "anti-sag kit"? If so, this may be a clear sign that they have no idea how to build a gate in a way that will prevent it from sagging. A properly framed gate will have measures built into it to prevent sagging, and will look much more attractive than an ugly wire anti-sag kit. vinyl privacy fence
